+++ ANNUAL EXECUTIVE WORKSHOP ON THE "PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF SECURITY" +++

The 1 st annual workshop on PRactical AspeCts of SEcurity (PRACSE) took place at the premises of Athens Information Technology on June 16-17, 2006, sponsored by INTRACOM IT SERVICES, Infote and Hellas on Line. The event was accredited by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA). The PRACSE 2006 workshop attracted a large number of students and professionals working in the field of Information and Network Security who wished to update their knowledge on the recent developments on wireless security and the fundamentals of cryptography. Keynote speaker of the workshop was Philip R. Zimmermann, founder of Pretty Good Privacy (PGP), who talked about a new way to secure voice-over IP as well as the implications on privacy by the ever-increasing use of surveillance technology.

Besides Philip Zimmerman, a number of speakers contributed to the success of PRACSE 2006: Periklis Papaspyropoulos and Notis Iliopoulos (Financial & Enterprise Solutions Division, INTRACOM IT SERVICES) talked on the business perspective of managing security; Prof. Tassos Dimitriou (AIT) expanded on the fundamentals of cryptography and attacks on wireless systems; Prof. Yiannis Stamatiou (University of Ioannina and CTI) gave a tour on real protocol implementations; Prof. Gregory Yovanof (AIT) highlighted the challenges on securing next generation mobile systems, and others.
