Core Applications for Public Administration (CAPA)
CAPA (Core Applications for Public Administration) represents
INTRACOM IT SERVICES long-standing experience from implementing
large-scale projects for the Public Administration sector.
CAPA does not constitute a product in the traditional sense but a development platform consisting of:
- Software components in the form of either independent applications or libraries
- Design patterns and best design practices
- A project development roadmap
These components offer a solution to a series of problems and needs of the broader public administration sector.
The particular applications development environment does not constitute an object of advanced design but it was the result of iterative and incremental procedures.
The need for the creation, on behalf of INTRACOM IT SERVICES, of a development platform like CAPA was first encountered when the company, providing data processing solutions in the framework of implementing a series of projects for public sector organizations, discovered recurring behaviours and observed similarities, as, in many cases, a different solution was given to the same problem.
The company, in its effort to handle this issue in a systematic manner and on a clearly unified basis, isolated the common characteristics of all the problems it had solved itself, even if this was carried out through different channels or alternatives. Afterwards, the company selected the best design practices as well as the most successful procedures in order to produce the appropriate solutions. In this way, the understanding of the required business model (procedures and workflow) was achieved to a satisfactory degree so as to be imprinted, in the form of design patterns, on the software the company produces. In short, all the above compose and constitute the CAPA applications platform.
The great importance of CAPA lies not only in the technical solutions it provides and the "turnkey" software applications it includes, but even more so, in the incorporation of patterns and procedures, i.e. know-how, into public administration applications. As a result, applications development does not start "from scratch" any more; on the contrary, it involves synthesis of one or more components undergoing proper customisation. The synthesis and customisation of the components is achieved in compliance with CAPA's roadmap, whereas, if the development of new components is required, this is carried out according to the design solutions and practices CAPA prescribes.
In general terms, CAPA incorporates all the
accumulated business knowledge, business experience and expertise
of INTRACOM IT SERVICES from its up to now engagement in implementing
large-scale IT projects in Greece and abroad.
Typical examples of the functional areas that CAPA covers are: Payroll, Personnel, Accounting, Income, Expenses, Commissions, Inventories, Taxation Systems, Social Security Systems, etc.
CAPA has also expanded to a significant degree and currently covers, apart from the traditional information systems, the demands of public administration in the utilization of modern technologies such as electronic transactions via the Internet, e-business, e-government solutions, customer contact solutions, business intelligence solutions, etc.
